Post-Construction Cleaning in Washington DC
Rough, final and touch-up cleans for tenant build-outs, retail and restaurant fit-outs, multifamily deliveries and renovations across the District, scheduled to your turnover date.
DC Final Cleans Run On The Freight Elevator
In the District, your final clean usually happens on one floor of a building that stays open. The freight elevator, the dock and the building hours set the plan.
A crew that books those first finishes on time. A crew that shows up and asks does not.
The local concept
The Freight Slot
The freight slot is the reserved block of time on a building's service elevator and loading dock. DC's mid-rise office and apartment buildings usually share one freight car among every tenant and contractor, so slots go fast when several build-outs run at once.
You request the slots when the final clean is scheduled, not the week before. Debris goes down and equipment comes up inside the slots the building gives you.
Why DC Builders And Owners Call Us
Tenant build-outs downtown
A law firm or association moving onto a K Street or Farragut floor needs the suite final-cleaned between the last trade and move-in day.
Office to apartment conversions
The District has been turning older downtown office buildings into housing. Units come out of those projects floor by floor, and each floor needs its final clean as it is released.
Navy Yard and Union Market deliveries
New apartment and mixed-use buildings around the Navy Yard, Audi Field at Buzzard Point and Union Market deliver in phases. Units, corridors and amenity floors are cleaned as each phase is handed over.
Restaurant and retail fit-outs
Ground-floor bays on 14th Street, in Shaw and around the Walter E. Washington Convention Center need dust out of kitchens, dining rooms and storefront glass before opening.
Medical suites in occupied buildings
A medical suite built next door to one that is seeing patients needs dust contained and its final clean done after hours.
Small mixed-use conversions
Rowhouse and corner-store conversions have no dock and narrow stairs, so debris and equipment move by hand and the plan says how.
What a DC Final Clean Covers
Dust Off Every Surface
HEPA vacuums on ceilings, ledges, diffusers and sills, then damp wiping so nothing settles back on a finished suite.
Storefront and Interior Glass
Storefront panes, sidelights and conference room glass cleared of film, stickers and paint spray, with frames and tracks detailed.
Labels, Film and Overspray
Protective film peeled from fixtures and appliances, tape and adhesive lifted, paint specks taken off trim and hardware.
Floors After Everyone Leaves
Tile, LVT, polished concrete and carpet finished once the last trade has stopped walking on them.
Occupied-Building Logistics
Freight elevator slots, loading dock windows and corridor protection coordinated with building management.
Touch-Up Before The Walk
A return trip after the punch list so the owner sees a finished suite instead of a drip on the sill.
What Post-Construction Cleaning in Washington DC Involves
Permits And Inspections Run Through DOB
In the District, building permits, inspections and certificates of occupancy are issued by the Department of Buildings, DOB, which took over that work from the old DCRA in 2022. A tenant build-out or a new delivery generally needs its final inspections passed and its certificate of occupancy issued before anyone moves in, and the final clean is usually scheduled against that inspection date and the owner walkthrough that follows it, not against the day the contractor says the work is done.
Almost Every Site Is An Occupied Building
Most commercial construction in DC is interior work in a building that is already full: a floor in an office tower, a retail bay under residences, a medical suite next to one that is seeing patients. That means freight elevator reservations, loading dock windows, protected corridors and dust control at the demising wall, and a cleaning crew that works nights or early mornings so the neighbors never notice. The scope has to spell out access, staging and hours, because the building will.
Cost Factors
What Drives the Cost of Post-Construction Cleaning in Washington DC
A DC final clean is priced off the site walk and the punch list. These are the things that change it.
Suite or floor size, and whether it needs rough, final and touch-up passes
What the trades leave: drywall dust, packaging, paint and adhesive
Glass count, storefront height and any exterior panes
Floor finish: polished concrete, tile, LVT, carpet or hardwood
Freight slots, dock windows and night work the building requires
How close the certificate of occupancy inspection is
Kitchens, labs or medical rooms that need a specialty pass

Post-Construction Cleaning in Washington DC: Questions
Can you clean a build-out on a single floor of an occupied DC office building?
Yes, that is most of our DC work. We coordinate the freight elevator and dock with building management, protect the corridor, and work the hours the building allows, usually nights. Nothing from the construction floor ends up in a tenant corridor.
When should we book the final clean?
As soon as the inspection date is set. In DC the Department of Buildings issues the certificate of occupancy, so the final clean is timed to that inspection and the owner walk after it.
Do you do rough cleans during construction?
Yes. A rough clean while finish trades work keeps dust off new surfaces. The final clean follows once they are out, and a touch-up comes after the punch walk.
What sets a DC post-construction price?
The square footage, how many passes the job needs, how much the trades leave behind, glass and floor finishes, and the freight and dock access the building allows. You get one written figure after a free site walk.
